Quiet Blush is a pale, barely-there pink, the kind that feels more like light than color. At first glance it’s soft and calm but linger for a moment, tilt it just so, and a whisper of green slips into view. It’s not showy or constant. It appears only when the light and angle agree, like a shared secret between the glass and the person wearing it.

This is February on Vinalhaven in its most tender mood. The island between storms. The sky washed clean. The water holding traces of yesterday’s color and tomorrow’s weather. Quiet Blush reflects those in-between moments when nothing dramatic is happening and yet everything feels possible.

There’s an ease to this color, an uncluttered clarity that lets the piece breathe. It draws people in close rather than calling across the room, rewarding attention with a subtle shift that feels personal and unexpected. And when that green flicker appears, it feels a little bit like alchemy. Proof that even the gentlest things can surprise us.

Quiet Blush was made to soften the edges of February. To offer lightness without distraction, beauty without noise, and a reminder that sometimes the most memorable moments are the ones you almost miss if you’re not paying attention.

Winter has settled in around the studio, snow piled high and the pace slowed, but inside there’s still plenty of color, warmth, and making happening.

The studio has been busy in the best way. First order of business was reclaiming it from a brief but very real stint as a construction zone. I’m renovating my kitchen this winter and spring, taking it phase by phase. I’ve just moved into phase 4 of 7, and it’s looking really good so far. But back to the studio.

With the space reset and humming again, my 2026 color palette is officially decided and the samples are made. Now comes the satisfying puzzle of timing. Figuring out when each color makes its way into the world, onto the website, and into the shop. This month you’ll see Quiet Blush, followed by Starwater, Falling Light, and Burnished. I’m excited about all of them and already wishing for a few extra hours in each day to get everything made.

The storefront itself is in winter hibernation mode, quieter and slower, but I’m always happy to meet you in town if you’re looking for a splash of color.

Winter has arrived in earnest. Snow upon snow, deep cold that takes your breath away, and days where beauty takes a little more effort to notice. I’m finding it where I can. Evenings by the wood stove with a book in my hands, a pot of tea within reach, the quiet doing its good work. I just finished Horse, which lingered long after the last page, and I’m now diving into Theo of Golden, highly recommended and already pulling me in.

Outside, life continues at its own sensible pace. The horses are doing what horses do best this time of year. Eating steadily, day and night, standing where the sun breaks through and the wind can’t reach them. It’s warmth by accumulation. The ducks finally made a break from their coop this week and discovered the greenhouse, which reached a positively tropical 65 degrees in yesterday’s sunshine. They were delighted.

And Gigi. She hasn’t slowed down one bit. We’ve sacrificed a few balls to the snowpack, with hopes of a joyful recovery mission come spring, and she’s been making the most of winter with some excellent playdates with her bestie, Bowie.

Inside, garden planning is in full swing and seed starting is officially underway. The promise of green feels close, even when the thermometer says otherwise. There never seem to be enough hours in the day, but this season reminds me to hold what’s here. Warmth, stories, steady rhythms, and small signs of life waiting patiently for the light to return.
