August has arrived. There are swims to take, berries to pick, people to see, work to finish, gardens to water, and at least one daily trip into town that will inevitably take three times longer than expected because you ran into someone you haven’t seen in ages or since yesterday.

Island Time is turquoise and sea green with flashes of red and purple that appear when they feel like it. It shifts with the light, refuses to look exactly the same twice, and seems perfectly suited to this part of summer, when plans are useful right up until the day has other ideas.

Island Time likes to move. Turquoise and sea green shift as the earrings catch the light, and then, just when you think you know what color they are, a flash of red or purple shows up.

That makes these particularly fun earrings to wear. They change as you move, look different from one angle to the next, and have just enough color to get noticed without taking over the room.

Handcrafted with fused dichroic glass in my Vinalhaven studio, they’re a little bit unpredictable, very August, and perfectly happy when the day doesn’t go quite according to plan.

Island Time gets especially interesting when you put several stones together. One might lean turquoise, another sea green, while the next suddenly flashes red or purple. The result is a bracelet that seems to rearrange itself every time the light changes.

Handcrafted with fused dichroic glass in my Vinalhaven studio, this is a bracelet with plenty going on, but somehow it all works together. A bit like an August day on the island: you started with a plan, ran into three people, went for a swim, forgot one thing at Carver’s, and still ended up exactly where you needed to be.

At first glance, Island Time is all turquoise and sea green. Then the light shifts and suddenly there’s red. Or purple. Or something hovering wonderfully between the two.

The larger stone of the necklace gives all of that color plenty of room to move around, making this one of those pieces you may find yourself checking throughout the day just to see what it’s doing now.

Studio Notes: Come Find Me

One of the things I've realized this summer is that not everyone knows where to find me these days, so here's a little reminder! WindHorse Arts is now just a few doors farther up Main Street. I have my own entrance and my own shop, located inside the New Era Gallery building, and it's still the same WindHorse Arts you've always known.

If you're heading into town for groceries, the post office, or simply an afternoon stroll, I'd love for you to stop in and say hello. Whether you're looking for this week's Color Drop or just want to catch up for a few minutes, the door is open.
