My Life

  • Up bright and early - I write my morning pages, sit meditation and do a little movement then out for chores and a good walk with Gigi. My day unfolds from there with time spent in making things in the studio, playing with horses, digging in the gardens and the business end of the business.

  • I love morning pages, this is a practice that was a catalyst for me as I was floundering in the corporate world. Basically it’s a brain dump - first thing in the morning - 3 pages long hand -don’t stop don’t edit - just write. Then stop and put it away or throw it out . This is not a journal! If you want to save them to reread, I suggest you don’t reread for a year.

I’ve changed the way I write my morning pages - you can see what mine look like HERE. To read more about morning pages and to learn about The Artist’s Way check out this website.

  • Gigi (short for good girl or gregarious girl or girl guide or goofy girl or …) aka Geege

  • I have always loved horses and cannot imagine a time in my life before horses. Through horses I learned love, patience, compassion, communication and the joy that comes from working with your hands, your mind and your heart.

Horses on an island is really no different than anywhere else … the hardest thing is getting the hay. I use around 350 bales a year.

We have 9 horses on the island and we all work together so that the vet, the farrier and the equine dentist come to see all of us on the same visit - helps to keep costs down.

  • In the summer mostly salad things - lettuce, tomato, cukes lots of flowers and herbs. Also, lots of fruit - blueberries, strawberries and grapes and newly planted cherry trees, elderberries and haskaps. Im working on creating a year round garden and have been studying the work of Nikki Jabour from Nova Scotia

  • Yes … Mabel, Clementine, Eloise and Beatrix are the girls and the boys are Ambrose and Felix

  • Depends on the season - in the winter nothing beats some curry with naan and in the summer a salad fresh from the garden

  • I always have at least 3 going - 1 fiction, I book to educate myself around indigenous and racial justice and 1 about glass, craft or business. If there is fourth going then its either about … who knows! Look here to see my bookcases and read a little about my take on the books that have crossed my path.
