The Work, The Studio + The Store

  • I use glass from Bullseye Glass in Portland Oregon and silver comes from Rio Grande in New Mexico

  • Great questions! Each color is made up of 2 -4 different colors layered on top of each other and then fired in the kiln until the layers melt to become one and voila - a new color! To date I’ve created over 437 colors.

The decision as to which ones I make - that comes from all sorts of places - morning walks, sunsets, customers, friends… anywhere

  • The names came about initially to make it easier to refer to a color (how many ways are there to describe blue - with the word blue???)

Now the names come about mostly from the young people that hang out in my studio all summer and a few from customers… just the other day someone suggested the name “Judy Garnet” for one of my new reds … what do you think?

  • A lost earring … no really … a lost earring hear the whole story here

  • I’m partial to blues … but I always love a pop of orange!!!

  • Always something interesting to do and I get to determine what my day looks like!

  • Currently, my store at 50 Main St on Vinalhaven is in winter hibernation mode and will open for the season in May 2023.

My online store is always open! Shop here

  • YES! Call me we’ll talk .

  • In all aspects of my work I am conscious of the impact I have on the environment. My kilns operate on electricity and I'm fortunate to live on Vinalhaven where we generate all of our electricity from wind turbines. All of my shipping and packaging materials are either recycled or made from recycled materials. I generate no landfill trash from my studio - everything is either recycled, composted or reused. I maintain a large raw materials inventory which allows me to always request ground shipping. This is my 23rd year in business and I believe I got here because I am always finetuning my practices and systems to support a growing, sustainable and environmentally sound business.
